which answer is correct ?
Bacteria reproduce: sexually by conjugation or asexually by binary fission ?
asexually by fission. Its Paramoecium that reproduce sexually via conjugation, even tho' they're lower organisms.
Reply:Both answers are correct.
Reply:Yes.
Reply:Either
Reply:Most of the time bacteria reproduce by binary fission, asexually.
Some kinds are able to conjugate and exchange genetic materials.
They can do both.
Reply:both
Reply:bacteria reproduce via binary fission which is similiar to mitosis in that exact copies of the original bacteria are made. Sexual reproduction refers to gamete formation via meiosis reducing dipliod germ cells to haploid gametes which is sperm in males and oocytes in females. The gametes come back together as a zygote at fertilization to reform the diploid state of the organism. Bacteria are not capable of this. Conjugation refers to the ability of one bacteria to form a bridge via a "sex pillus" with a bacteria lacking the sex pillus gene and exchange some of its genetic info via plasmids. After conjugation, both bacteria are F+ which encodes for the sex pillus. Conjugation is not sexual reproduction.
Reply:The usual method of reproduction in bacteria is binary fission(asexual method). Only a few types of bacteria reproduce sexually by most primitive type of sexual reproduction called conjugation. It is only with those bacteria which conatain extra-nuclear DNA called plasmid(when free) or Episome(when integrated with main DNA). Episome type of bacteria are positive in transfering genetic material(DNA) from donor to the recipient during conjugation. This in terms of genetics is called genetic recombination. This is the most simple and early method of sexual reproduction. The recipient bacteria when reproduce by binary fission, produces new strain of bacteria which have the characters of both donor and recipient. Examples of such bacteria are Salmonella, Shiegella etc.
